VideoLAN - VLC media player
About VideoLAN
VideoLAN is a project, run by volunteers,
backed-up by a non-profit organisation,
which produces free and open source software for multimedia,
released under the GNU General Public License.
Learn more about the VideoLAN project and organisation.
Our main software is the cross-platform VLC media player.
We are also the home of x264 and many other projects, like DVBlast, libDVDcss or VLMa.
About VLC
VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player supporting most audio and video formats (H.264, Ogg, DivX, MKV, TS, MPEG-2, mp3, MPEG-4, aac, ...) from files, physical media (DVDs, VCD, Audio-CD), TV capture cards and many network streaming protocols.
It can also convert media files, transcode and act as a streaming server over unicast or multicast and IPv4 or IPv6. It doesn't need any external codec, program or codec pack to work.

VLC 1.0.5
2010-01-31
VideoLAN and the VLC developers are very proud to announce their latest release of VLC. After more than 51 million downloads of VLC 1.0.3, this version is specially aimed towards Windows and Mac platforms, and brings various fixes, speed improvements and translations updates.
The Windows version benefits speed-ups from both an updated compiler (gcc 4.4.2) and codecs updates.
The Mac version brings support for the latest Apple Remote and updated codecs too.
Some antivirus have wrongly detected a virus in the Windows release, if you want the VideoLAN team can suggest better antivirus or operating sytem, on request.
Be careful, VLC 1.1 is on the road!
